I’m currently writing a novel, which initially started out as steampunk, but which has turned more into steamfantasy, or even aetherpunk.
I do find it odd that people are starting to try to define, codify what ‘steampunk’ is, rather than just letting people crack on and have fun, which is what SP is all about for me to be honest!

I don’t feel I’m much of a writer at all but I’ve always dreamed of being one. Any suggestions on how to learn the basics w/o paying for college classes?
There are plenty of inexpensive ($20-30), good online classes– try Savvy Authors or classes offered through various local chapters of the Romance Writers of America (not all the classes are romance-y).

Absolutely… do one of the cheaper courses. I did and my steampunk novella Winter of the Passion Flower has just been published!
