Steampunk Success

May 11, 2010 by Theresa Meyers

I’ve had three men roving about in the nether regions of my brain for longer than I care to admit. (And honestly my husband is fine with it.) They’re brothers – all named after their father’s favorite guns: Winchester, Remington and Colt.

They hunt paranormal things, you know, vampires, demons, skin-walkers, shapeshifters and the like. They’ve got a kooky Brit inventor friend named Marley who’s brilliant but whose inventions tend to be either utterly brilliant or supremely tragic. And they have big problems.  You see, while they hunt paranormals, they never planned to be attracted to them. I can best describe it as Supernatural meets Wild Wild West.

For the longest time I’ve wanted to share them. Now I can! Just yesterday I recived “the call” – you know the one that writers talk about. My steampunk series has sold! My darling Jackson brothers will be coming out in three books, The Legend Chronicles,  from Kensington publishing starting with The Hunter in 2011.

To celebrate I went shopping at the local antique shops that fill the downtown area of our little hamlet. (One can have a hamelt outside of England, can’t one?) One room on the second floor of a shop yeilded all kinds of tresurers for outfitting my characters (and myself) for upcoming adventures.

I also spent a good afternoon drafting up ideas for costumes based on my characters. I learned to sew when I was eight. By high school I was taking multiple patterns and creating my own formals – usually ending up with something that looked far more victorians than was popular for the 1980s. So it was only natural that I design clothing for my heroines in the series. (and you’ll just have to deal with the sketch because my degree was not in art, folks.) A fitted black confection with brass buckles and sheer red inserts for my vampire countess. A western wear adventure ensemble for my shape-shifting thief, and deep green sedutive evening gown for my succubus. This is just way too much fun!

I’m estatic about the sale and I can’t wait to share their adventures with you!

HUGE congrats on your sale, Theresa!! I *love* the names — that is so perfect. Sounds like they will be sexy paranormal adventures? (YAY!) And the costume looks awesome – I defintely get a countess vibe from it. Love the buckles that hold up the overskirt! 😀 Are you really going to make it?

    Thanks, Jenn!

Gwen, I’m seriously thinking about it for Steamcon, but I have several others I’m working on for characters that will appear sooner – like the seductive green gown for my succubus. Since she’ll be the first heroine in the series, I might try to make her gown first.
