Monday Spotlight: Steamheat Designs + Contest

July 2, 2012 by suzannelazear

First off, I’d like to announce the winner of the ARC of God Save the Queen:

Romance Reader Enthusiast

Also, INNOCENT DARKNESS is book of the month over at Novel Novice. There’s going to be tons of fun stuff including a Steampunk writing contest.

Next off, we have a special contest for you today!

Christine Cavataio runs http://www.steamheatdesigns.com - which makes *very* beautiful Steampunk jewelry.

Here’s what she has to say about why she loves to make Steampunk designs:

For the past 30 years I have been an artist and the style of Steampunk has been a part of much of my work. I started out as an artist creating paintings and then moved into graphic art and illustration as a career. The style of Steampunk comes very natural to me since I have explored the contrast of design in industrial elements along with the detail and flourishes of the Victorian period. Although in the past I have depicted these in my illustrations now it seems to work best for me, in a creative sense, to put these ideas into jewelry design. It’s great to develop pieces of art that people enjoy wearing!

She has made this beautiful Steampunk bracelet for one of YOU!  All you have to do is tell us what kind of Steampunk jewelry you’d design if you could (it could be serious or silly, realistic or totally impossible).

If you need inspiration make sure you check out Steamheat’s site. You can also follow her on twitter.

Thanks to Steamheat Designs for donating the bracelet. Contest open in North America only.  Prize will come directly from Steamheat Designs.  One entry per person. Contest ends July 8th, 11:59 PM PST .

I’m assuming ‘North America only’ includes Canada? If not, I reckon this is a great idea anyway …

Jewelry with twist? Taking all the LGBTQI symbols and creating a line of steampunk pieces featuring them – do you have any idea how many would sell around this time of the year!!!

In my WIP I’m big on steampunk items that serve duel purposes. My main character has chandelier style earrings that has two bullets per earring. The character can reach up and clip them off for quick reloads. The idea was actually inspired by a pair of earrings that I found on etsy.

The character also has a rosary that doubles as a key. If I could ever turn this into a real piece of jewelry, that would be super amazing. Thanks for the giveaway!

I’m a budding jewelry designer and since discovering Steampunk, cogs and gears are in my jewelry design. Despite designing my own jewelry, I love other people’s because then I can keep it for myself instead of selling it or giving it as gifts. Thanks for the opportunity to win this amazing bracelet.

I saw some really cool, pimped out gas masks on etsy. I think it would be fun to design a variant of those. Perhaps a necklace that doubles as a gas mask.

I love the idea of steampunk fashion being functional (versus haveing gears glued to it.) If I was to design a piece for myself I would want a blaclet / bracer that would function as a wrist mounted pencil box to hold my art supplies.

I really like the idea of jewelry pieces with moving parts – gears that turn as I move, etc. It would be especially cool if they could be powered by my movement. I know I’ve heard of watches that work that way, and I wonder if it could be translated to other things.

Wow, what awesome jewlery Christine 8D
I do play around with jewlery design, My preferences are lights and sounds (along with Victorian design). If I could I would LOVE to design a time stopper, envision the FUN of being able to stop time while you get to go & do whatever suits (Karma anyone?).
