Trick or Treat — Secret Scents Locket Giveaway

October 31, 2011 by suzannelazear

Today is the last day you can participate in the YA Trick or Treat Party (I’m giving away buttons.)

NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow.  If you’re writing Steampunk come join us at the Writing Steampunk yahoo group,  make sure you say you learned about us on Steamed.

Artist Brigid Ashwood makes beautiful art–I’ve been drooling over her designs for years.  She is part of a brand new company called Secret Scents, which makes beautiful lockets filled with beeswax-based solid perfume.  They have a wide variety of designs including Steampunk (love the butterfly), Vintage Romance, and Victorian ones designed by Brigid Ashwood, Lisa Steinke, and Ash Evans.  There are many, many scents to choose from  provided by Mystic Memories Artisan Perfumes.

I have the butterfly teacup one from the Victorian collection (in sepia, they also have it in color).  As pretty as it is in the picture, it surpassed my expectations when I actually held it in my hands.  It’s beautiful, not too heavy or too big, nice quality, and the tea linen scent is nice and light when I wear it (I prefer very light, fresh scents.)  The beeswax perfume isn’t greasy and it’s not overpowering to wear a locket full of it around my neck.

You can also mix and match and customize your locket by choosing if you want our locket brass or silver,  what scent you want it in ( or no scent at all), you can even have a custom picture (which might make for a nice holiday gift.)

There are other collections, including so cute it burns with pictures of whimsical little creatures and butterfly wisdom.  All the designs are just so pretty (or cute) and would be great for your fave Steampunk outfit, going out, or a special gift.

As a special trick-or-treat Halloween surprise, one of you will win one of your very own and will have your choice of any of the regular lockets from their collection.  All you have to do is tell me which one you’d wear and where you’d wear it in the comment box!

Contest closes Sunday November 6, 2011 ay 11:59 PM PST.  Winner chosen at random. Contest open to those in the U.S. only.

I would wear the ‘Steam Butterfly’ out on a date with hubby. The scent would be so exotically different & alluring too.

Ooh, tough choice. I’d probably go with “Key to My Heart,” or possibly “Steam Bee.” Both have lovely simple but detailed designs, and simple, warm scents. I expect I’d be able to wear it a lot, it would go with plenty of my wardrobe.

I would love to wear the Victorian butterfly teacup when I go see my sexy steampunk erotica co-author. We have some hard “research” to do. Sigh.

I think I have to agree with Catherine D.! ‘Steam Bee’ and ‘Key to My Heart’ are lovely and feminine, and could be worn with a variety of ensembles :) I would wear it when I went to tea with my girlfriends and make them green with envy (and then promptly gift them one of their own for Twelfth Night)…

I would wear Steam Bee or Tea & Company to work for a little something different around the office. Love the designs!

  6. on October 31, 2011 at 9:16 am Arwen

I’d wear the tea cup just about anywhere but I know it would go to my Femme teas with me.

  7. on October 31, 2011 at 9:21 am mudepoz (@mudepoz)

I’m a creature of tea. How can one not love camellias?

  8. on October 31, 2011 at 9:29 am Elizabeth Kolodziej

I like the teacup butterfly one. I would wear it to work or parties. :)

I love “Inspire” from the Butterfly Wisdom collection. I’d wear it when I was writing as motivation!

  10. on October 31, 2011 at 10:08 am Ellen

I like them all but if I had a chance to choose just one, I’d choose the steam bee locket. I would wear as often as I could; absolutely anywhere! It is fabulous!

  11. on October 31, 2011 at 10:35 am RoaneFaery

The Steam Butterfly is may favorite. I love steampunk with some color in it. I have a great outfit it would work with for a number of conventions I go to. It is also a great statement piece to add when I just want to dress up a little more for dinner with my husband.

  12. on October 31, 2011 at 10:35 am Elle

Steam Bee. I love insects, especially bees, and would wear it to my NaNoWriMo write-ins for some steampunk inspiration.

  13. on October 31, 2011 at 10:51 am Heather Hiestand

I love the Key to My Heart, though the Steam Bee is very cool. I would wear it around the house, so the sandalwood perfume would lower my blood pressure as I cleaned up after my tot and dreamed up ways to torture my steampunk smugglers!

I love the Inspire Butterfly locket. What a great way to spice up any outfit, especially with the spark of purple on this necklace.

  15. on October 31, 2011 at 1:39 pm Runere McLain

The Steampunk Butterfly is a fantastic locket! Definitely something I would wear for writing inspiration. I can imagine lifting it to my nose and inhaling the scent! (But they’re all beautiful and I’ve made a note of the artists!)

  16. on October 31, 2011 at 4:20 pm Loni Emmert

Although I love them all, my heart melts when looking at the butterfly on the teacup! And I love it in sepia although light pink, blue or purple would work, too! I’d wear it to the RWA banquet next year which I cannot wait to attend!!

  17. on October 31, 2011 at 4:28 pm Lottie (@xpinkstreakzx)

I’d totes wear the sepia toned one…. I have a thing for vintage looking things and the neck part goes especially well with it ~<3
I think I'd pretty much wear it anywhere, but I do have a special outfit that it would match the most; white, airy linen shirt (think pirate ;) ) with amazingly puffy sleeves, white, thick headscarf, thick dark brown belt with a buckle only slightly darker than the edge of the locket and boots :') Sigh… I cannot WAIT for an occasion to dress up as much as that… :D

  18. on October 31, 2011 at 4:36 pm Robyn Hawk

I cannot believe how enchanting these are – and I mean ALL of them! Brigid’s artwork is stunning and the match up of scent to art is brilliant! …of course I have a bias for insects ;-p

While I loved Steam Bee and the classic Key To My Heart…I have to go with “Bee Love” from the Vintage Romance collection – did you notice the mechanical aspect to the stunning realism of the bee?

  19. on October 31, 2011 at 6:11 pm Linda

I would wear the butterfly teacup to Mad Hatters in San Antonio. Whenever, my husband and I hit town it’s the first place we go to for a great cup of tea and scones or a light repast.

  20. on November 1, 2011 at 6:13 am Brigid

Oh thank you for the lovely review! Can’t wait to see who wins! ;)

  21. on November 1, 2011 at 6:21 am Brigid

OH! One thing I forgot to mention! A portion of the proceeds of our sales goes to supporting Heifer Internationals HoneyBee program – because honeybees are endangered and without them we couldn’t make these lockets!

  22. on November 1, 2011 at 6:46 am Poppy Saurus Yasmin McGee

I would wear Steam Bee, anywhere and everywhere, because it matches my bee tattoo and print I have from Brigid x

  23. on November 1, 2011 at 6:54 am Laura

The Steam Butterfly is exquisite and the patchouli in the fragrance divine! There are so many great designs, though, it would be very hard to choose just one! I would wear it anywhere and everywhere. I just love works of art I can carry with me wherever I go!

  24. on November 1, 2011 at 10:02 am Tina Dreamweaver

I would wear all three the butterfly tea cup in the morning out and bout. the steam punk butterfly in the afternoon on errand and interviews and then at night after all work is done I would wear the ash Evans design to relax and have fun with friends and loved one. now since i can only have one choose to win you see I would have a joy to wear any of them but since i have to choose just one at this time it would be the Ash evan’s design so it would insure me to relax with friends and family and give me a light hearted feeling after a long day at work.

  25. on November 1, 2011 at 3:24 pm Sharon

Well, it’s between the Steam Bee or Steam Butterfly. They are all lovely but I really like the scents in those two. I’d wear them everywhere, very cool little pieces of art.
Thanks for the opportunity to win one

I absolutely love the Key to My Heart locket! It is so beautiful! I don’t like sandalwood though, so I might have to go with another one for the scent value…And I would wear it all over! Such a cool product! Thanks for the review!

You can mix and match scents and lockets! We are happy to do that! ;)

  27. on November 1, 2011 at 4:14 pm Knifty Knacks (@KniftyKnacks)

I would definitely wear the butterfly teacup near everywhere. For dressier events, I’d wear the queen version.

  28. on November 2, 2011 at 9:11 am Sherri A. Dub

I would love to wear the Steampunk Butterfly locket. It is truly breathtaking. I’d wear it to my 43rd bday bash in Dland in two weeks…where my family is all going and we are dressing Steampunk!

  29. on November 2, 2011 at 10:04 am Destiny Philipose

I love the Steam Butterfly locket! It is perfect for a night out or even to wear to work. It is romantic and whimsical. I would probably have mine unscented though bc I can’t wear patchouli. But I also love the Steam Bee one!

Thank you for such a wonderful giveaway!

  30. on November 3, 2011 at 12:10 pm Anya Sandoval

I think they are all wonderful and very hard to pick just one. I would love to have the ‘Fortuna’ by Ash Evans with a silver locket.

This definitely one of the best giveaways ever… Thank you soo much for hosting this giveaway!

    Anya

I never would have imagined such a product as a locket full of perfume, but I think it is a wonderful idea! I really like the Steam Bee, which seems to be a popular choice. The locket is beautiful and the scent sounds fantastic!

  32. on November 4, 2011 at 4:42 pm Loraine Hunziker

I would love the Steampunk Butterfly with the Inspire fragrance. I would wear it everywhere! Some days the world treats you like a lowly caterpillar but you know that you are a big hearted, beautiful butterfly! The Inspire fragrance would fit my would right now. The vanilla would remind me of home and the dark chocolate would soothe my stressed soul.

  33. on November 4, 2011 at 8:30 pm Carrie at In the Hammock Blog

The steam bee is my fave, i also really like the teacup you have pictured here. thank you for the contest! I’d wear it anytime!

  34. on November 5, 2011 at 8:51 am xoxgothicangelxox

i would choose the bee love in sepia that comes with the honeyed amber scent even though i`m highly allergic i still respect bees and think bees are interesting how they can make this beautiful things like honey and can also cause a very painful sting if threatened . i would were it on all the days were i need a confidence boost or when i need inspiration so i can feel as strong as one thousand bees , or because it is quite unique when i go out somewhere to a place were i know no one it would help me make new friends by help start a conversation that would help me gain new friends and confidence .
