Steampunk writing prompt

February 11, 2011 by Marie-Claude Bourque

If you were to tell the story of this gal what would it be? Is she an airship pirate, or military general?

What is the eye piece for? Does it replace her own eye or is it an add on to detect automatons passing for humans? Did she steal that fancy coat?

And what about those wires on her left shoulders?

this is a beautyful prompt i would think that she is a war craft general who lost her eye not in a battle out on the field but a domestic despute with her sister/mother over her occupational choice the wires on her jacket are conected to her eye so that she can actualy see where she reaches this is my random idea oh well i think its interesting

It can’t be an eye-piece for the detection of automatons – its too obvious. The automatons would hide when they see her coming with that thing on! Come on now.

From the nautical stuff (I can’t see it all that well), it is obvious that she navigates, though it’s not so obvious whether it is by sea, land, or air. (The hat is not very practical for air, thought it is not obvious that practicality is a priority for her. She could just as well be a fashion pioneer, and the chains nothing more that a ‘zoot-suit’-like accessory). The smile on her face is more suited to that of a fashion diva than a military general.

No. What fascinates me is the asymmetrical look of the ensemble, and the odd metal contraption on one shoulder. I suspect that the contraption hides the metal attachment that secures her bionic arm to her back. we can’t see her hands in the picture, but could one of them be a hook of some sort?

She’s a steampunk pirate, of course!

Hat, crustacean on her shoulder (instead of a parrot), and a bad-ass steampunk eyepatch. The jacket is gorgeous! Wonder if she has a peg-leg?

It’s not an artificial eye! It’s a steampunk monocle.

I think she must be a sky pirate, but on a smaller vessel. Her ensemble doesn’t say “soldier.” The monocle is her own, but the feathers came as a gift from someone she met in her travels. The coat is her mother’s, of course. It was passed down with the ship to her daughter.
